Peace Parks Foundation, founded by President Nelson Mandela, HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and Dr. Anton Rupert, is a leader in large-scale ecological restoration across southern Africa. Through co-management partnerships that unite governments, communities and donors, it restores vast transboundary landscapes that deliver measurable conservation and livelihood outcomes. Vision 2050 will secure 18 functional landscapes spanning 980,000 km², one of the world’s largest land-conservation initiatives.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Zinave NP Head of Operations and Development, the Project Manager is responsible for the Project Management of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) grant for the integrated development of Zinave NP, which focuses primarily on community, infrastructure development, conservation management, and development activities.
The position will also be responsible for oversight and management of all standard project management activities, including reporting, monitoring, and evaluation, risk and safeguard management.
Duties And Responsibilities
The position is based in Zinave National Park and will take overall responsibility for the implementation, management, and reporting of the IUCN Integrated development of Zinave National Park Project.
The ideal candidate will have non-profit sector experience in implementing international donor-funded community and conservation-based projects across marine and terrestrial environments, with multiple stakeholders and partners, and in compliance with all related social safeguard, procurement, and financial management and reporting requirements.
Specific Key Performance Areas Will Include
- Effective Leadership and Management of the project and implementation team, including ensuring collaboration, discipline, performance management, and good morale within the project teams and partners.
- Develop and maintain good practices around engagement, communication, and collaboration with all external role players and stakeholders, including communities, government, and partner organisations.
- Ensuring regular formal coordination and planning meetings between project implementation teams and partners.
- Monitoring, ensuring compliance, and taking corrective actions to implement the project Work Plan, Log Frame, and Budget, ensuring that the project objectives are met.
- Identification and proactive engagement, and corrective actions to address any project risks or implementation challenges.
- Management of the Compliance and Risk officer and ensuring that all project Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes and Environmental and Social Safeguard Management Systems (ESMS) are implemented to donor and Peace Parks Foundation standards.
- Management of the Finance and Administration officer and ensuring that all procurement and financial management processes are implemented to donor and Peace Parks Foundation standards, and that all project administration is undertaken efficiently and effectively.
- Management of the Ecosystems Officer and ensuring that the project’s conservation activities are undertaken to the required project standards.
- Identification and appointment of service providers to meet project requirements.
- Managing the implementation of sub-grantee, subcontractor, and other service providers’ services to ensure that these are undertaken to the required project and contractual standards.
- Monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external donor reporting.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 5 – 10 years’ experience in a similar environment, preferably with a degree in Project Management, Business management, Environmental Management, or Social Sciences, and at least 5 years’ experience in senior or project management of similar scale projects or operations.
- Self-driven with strong leadership and team management experience, including the ability to motivate, reach consensus, set objectives and manage performance.
- Strong administrative and multi-tasking skills
- Experience in procurement and management of consultants and contractors.
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese and English.
- Experience with report writing.
- Experience with budgets, procurement, and financial management.
- Understanding of environmental and social safeguard requirements
- Track record, ability, and willingness to live and work in remote conditions is highly advantageous
