BACKGROUND
Peace Parks Foundation, founded by President Nelson Mandela, HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and Dr. Anton Rupert, is a leader in large-scale ecological restoration across southern Africa. Through co-management partnerships that unite governments, communities, and donors, it restores vast transboundary landscapes that deliver measurable conservation and livelihood outcomes. Vision 2050 will secure 18 functional landscapes spanning 980,000 km², one of the world’s largest land-conservation initiatives.
Peace Parks Foundation co-manages Banhine National Park, Limpopo National Park, and Zinave National Park within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park and has been awarded a grant for the Integrated development of Zinave National Park.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Zinave NP Head of Operations and Development (HOD), the Compliance Officer is responsible for the compliance within Zinave National Park and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) grant for the Integrated development of Zinave National Park, which focuses primarily on community, infrastructure development, and conservation management and development activities.
Duties And Responsibilities
The position is based at Zinave NP and will take overall responsibility for compliance at Zinave National Park, including the implementation, management, and reporting of the IUCN integrated development.
The position will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the project’s: (i) Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E); and (ii) Environmental and Social Safeguard Management System (ESMS) related processes at the project level. M&E will be guided by a detailed park and Project Log frame that requires the candidate to have a firm grasp of M&E terminology, data collection methodology, and reporting processes. At the same time, the ESMS requirements include taking responsibility for the project’s Stakeholder Engagement and Complaints Registers and related processes.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the non-profit sector, with a background in M&E and exposure to environmental and social safeguards. Experience across the conservation and sustainable development sectors would be highly advantageous, as would strong administrative, systems, and people skills.
Performance Areas
Specific key performance areas will include:
- Support the Park and Project team with the implementation and coordination of the park and project M&E and ESMS processes
- M&E:
- Support the rollout of M&E training for project stakeholders
- Coordinate and support data collection
- Support data management and governance to ensure data integrity and quality
- ESMS:
- Support the rollout of ESMS training for project stakeholders
- Support the implementation and routine monitoring of safeguarding tools across the project landscape
- Report to and liaise with the Project Risk and Compliance Committee
- As the custodian of the project’s Stakeholder and Complaints Registers, support the implementation, coordination, and monthly updating thereof
- Facilitate the timely implementation of the Complaints mechanism protocols
- Assist the HOD and Project Manager with the compilation of monthly and quarterly reports
Minimum Requirements
- At least three years’ experience in a similar environment, preferably with a qualification in Social and/or environmental Safeguards, M&E, Environmental Management or Social Sciences.
- Strong administrative and multi-tasking skills.
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese and English, while a capacity in the Shangaan language will be beneficial.
- Mozambican Citizen.
- Experience with report writing.
- Knowledge of and experience with Social and Environmental safeguards, M&E methodology, terminology, data collection, and quality management.
- Understanding of environmental and social safeguard requirements.
- Track record, ability, and willingness to live and work in remote conditions are highly advantageous.
