MECTS – Mozambique Electronic Cargo Tracking Services, S.A. – is a company incorporated under Mozambican law, whose object is the design, implementation and operation of electronic systems for sealing and tracking cargo using information and communication technologies. MECTS positions itself in the Electronic Sealing and Cargo Tracking Service Provision segment and with a business  strategy that  aims  to  add  value to  its  customers,  whether public or private, offering differentiated services related to the requirements and needs of safe transport of all types of goods and real-time tracking from departure to arrival at destination, in national, regional and continental territory.

 

 

Duty Station: Maputo

Reporting to: CEO

 

 

Purpose of the position:

 

The Managing Director will be responsabible for providing strategic, financial and operational leadership for the company and will closely coordinate and work with the Board of Directors and senior leadership team.

 

 

Main Responsabilities:

  • Plan, develop, implement and direct the Organization’s operational and functional function and performance;
  • Take overall responsibility and leadership in the stakeholders management mainly with MECTS

client, the government of Mozambique through the Mozambican Revenue Authoriy;

  • Identify new  business  opportunities  and  advise  the  BOD  accordingly  in  pursuant  of  such objectives;
  • Act as a strategic partner by developing and implementing the company’s plans and programs;
  • Analyze and make recommendations on the impact of long-range growth initiatives, planning and introduction of new strategies and regulatory actions;
  • Develop credibility and authority for the finance leadership team by providing accurate analysis of budgets, reports and financial trends and operational procedures in order to assist the BOD and senior executive team;
  • Create, improve,  implement  and  enforce  policies  and  procedures  of  organization  that  will improve operational and financial effectiveness of the company;
  • Communicate effectively and establish credibility throughout the organization and with the

Board of Directors as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges;

  • Provide expert financial guidance and advice to others within executive leadership;
  • Improve the planning and budgeting process on a continual basis by educating departments and key member of corporate leadership;

 

 

  • Promote strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization;

specifically relating to the evaluation of potential partnership and sub-contracting;

  • Optimize the handling of banking relationship and work closely with FD to foster and grow strategic financial partnership;
  • Oversee and manage all MECTS support/shared services i.e., operations, human resources, Administration and finance, procurement and logistics;
  • Work with finance team to develop solid cash flow projection and reporting mechanism, which includes setting a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs;
  • Act as strategic advisor and consultant offering expert advice on contracts, negotiations or business deals that the corporation may enter into;
  • Evaluate company’s financial, operational, sales and marketing structures to plan for continual improvements and a continual increase of operating efficiencies;
  • Mentor and  interact  with  members  of  staff  at  all  levels  to  foster  growth  and  encourage development among senior executive team and all members of staff

 

 

Main Requirements:

  • University degree in Supply Chain, Finance, or Business Administration
  • At least 10 years of experience in a senior management role;
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic and business plans;
  • Previous working experience as Managing Director, General Manager or similar role;
  • Previous working  experience  in  transport  and  logistic,  telematics  and/or  electronic  cargo tracking solutions will be an advantage;

  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Excellent negotiation, and presentation skills;
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
  • Executive presence and ability to maintain calm and confidence in high stress environments;
  • High level of business awareness and acumen.
